In his book THE OLIGARCHS: WEALTH & POWER IN THE NEW RUSSIA, David Hoffman writes about the six main oligarchs in Russia today and the events that made each of them so predatory and influential. We will discuss current Russian  politics and finance.

 Topic: Afghan Women’s Resistance Movement
 Guest: Cheryl Benard, sociologist

 In 1977 RAWA, the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan was created to oppose fundamentalism. Cheryl Benard, an adviser to RAWA, has just 
 returned from Afghanistan and will discuss the physical, intellectual and emotional oppression of Afghan women during the Taliban regime and how their lives are  now changing.

  Washington, D.C. is hosting the Spring meetings of the International Monetary 
 Fund and the World Bank. Activists from around the world will gather to report on several years of good faith efforts by civil-society organizations to engage in 
 dialogue and projects with the World Bank. Our guests will discuss their successes  and failures.
