Dr. Kastner led the international
consortium in the cloning of the gene for Familial Mediterranean Fever.
The hereditary periodic fever syndromes are a group of four genetic diseases
characterized by episodes of fever, sever pain in the abdomen, chest, or
joints, skin rash, and inflammation in or around the eyes. Dr.Kastner will
describe these genetic diseases, how they are diagnosed and whether or
not they can be cured.
