Mr. Highfield will discuss not only the magic we see in the world of Harry Potter movies, but how its equivalent can be found beyond the Hogwart’s School, in laboratories where physicists, biochemists, and geneticists are exploring the mysteries of our world.

In it’s fourth Annual Report on International Religious Freedom, issued this past October, the Commission emphasized conditions and U.S. policy with regard to 12 countries that it has recommended be designated as “countries of particular concern.” We will discuss the report and specifically the 12 countries of particular concern.

Guest: Deborah Scroggins, former correspondent for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, author

In her book, Emma’s War, Scroggin’s writes about Emma McCune, an aid worker from the UK that she met while covering Sudan as a young journalist.  Through the personal story of Emma and the Sudanese warlord she marries, Riek Macher, we learn about the people, poverty, slavery and ongoing civil war in this country. We will discuss the West’s relationship with Sudan.
